For android beginner like me, what is 'root' ? why is lots of people root their phone? Is it necessary or must or just brag...
After googling searching reading... Forumsssss then here afew tips about rooting your smartphone...
Rooting is "a process that allows users of cellphones and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's Linux subsystem, similar to jailbreaking on Apple devices running the iOS operating system, overcoming limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on such phones. " - WIKI : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS)
Is it necessary?
Depends why you buy smartphone and how you want to use it... If like me, I like to customize my homescreen and interface to another level that Samsung offer.. Then another thing about battery life issue, using custom rom can control your battery life even more or less. With custom rom you can choose to extend battery life by reduce unnecessary software or stock apps. Or overclock your machine for ultimate smartphone experience.
Here 5 reason :
1.Performance :
Most likely your smartphone now days have a spec similar or even more advance compare to 'Netbook'. But phone manufacturer block/limit what you can do with your phone because of several reason like power usage or hardware lifespan. With 'rooting' your smartphone, you can fully control your phone manually... want to increase/reduce speed, repartition memory, flash with custom ROM, don't like pre-install apps from network/manufacturer you can delete/ freeze it, control what you want to run on the background... and many more...
2. Can Install Apps to SDCard
Internal system memory that manufacturer provided maybe small for you, like SGS2 is 2GB, and 11GB as internal SDCard... so with 'rooting' your device, you can choose to install your apps into SDCard (internal/add on). So you can have unlimited apps basically..
3. Customize or Install extra features
Don't like Samsung TOUCHWIZ UI... here we go, with rooting your SGS2, you can install customize UI (like VillainROM did) or even install UI like HTC Sense... or even get rid all of it to run stock Google Andriod UI untuoch...
4. Battery Life
Here is the most priority for me, by rooting your SGS2. You can install custom ROM for example here VillainROM1.4 Lite... This ROM size only 326MB, compare to stock Samsung ROM 560MB.. that's alot of background apps or software running that eat battery faster. With VillainROM Lite... lots of those unnecessary stuff been strip out... so as a result, battery life longer... Proven, with stock ROM I manage to get around 12~14hrs from 100% to 15% remain, compare with VillainROM around 18~20hrs... pretty heavy user...
For SGS2, there are lot of source that you can use to root your phone. to be continue...
