Twonky Server 7.0.11 can see full 1TB USB External Hard Drive on DLink DNS 320L as Media Storage

Installed Twonky Server 7.0.11 on my DLink DNS-320L NAS as a media server for UPC Horizon TV Service with Samsung SMT-G7400 Setupbox (STB).

I will put here my installation details of my installation process as for my future reference elsewhere. The installation just straight forward as guide from a few websites (forums and blogger).

DLink DNS-320L has 1 USB port with it, and this USB port only can be used as Printer Server, UPS or Backup USB Drive. I tried to attach 1TB usb external HDD (LaCie P'9231 Desktop Drive) on it, and DNS-320L recognize it as another hard drive full 1TB capacity (NTFS Format).

System Management > USB Devices

DLink DNS-320L with 2 installed HDD plus 1TB USB HDD

Then I successfull to map this 1TB USB HDD as network drive through my Laptop (Windows 7).

Network Drives from DNS-320L

Originally, I attached this 1TB LaCie on my HTPC (Acer Revo R3610 with Windows 7 and XBMCbuntu) for media storage (full of my DVD/BD Rip Movies). So now it attached into DLink DNS-320L via USB and I tried to add it as media files (Multimedia Services on DNS 320L), but it won't shown as another storage to add  in multimedia services.

DLink DNS-320L Media Storage

But in Twonky Server, I can add this 1TB USB HDD on DNS-320L as media storage.

Twonky Server 7.0.11 on DNS-320L Media Storage

Bottom line is I can see all my movies inside LaCie from my setupbox (UPC Horizon - Samsung SMT-G7400) via Twonky Server (DNS-320L) without need to ON or setup another MediaServer/Machine.

Here snap from Twonky Server on DNS-320L via SetUpBox UPC Horizon (Samsung SMT-G7400)

Twonky Server on DNS-320L

And here snap from DLink DNS-320L Multimedia Services via SetUpBox UPC Horizon (Samsung SMT-G7400)

DNS-320L Multimedia Server

Next : I will try to add 2 or 3 USB External HDD into DLink DNS-320L through USB Hub, and see if this tiny NAS either can recognise and render it or not (DNS-320L FW or Twonky Server)

TiVo Stream & IP STB ...

TiVo Stream & IP STB Set For Fall Launch

As The Cable Show kicks off today, TiVo is out with a few whole home-esque product updates.
First, the upcoming transcoding box and functionality that I had christened TiVoToGo 2.0, has received a possibly less compelling name in the “Stream.” This small square device (shown below) sits on one’s home network to access both live and recorded content via TiVo Premiere DVR hardware and beams it around the home to “second screen” devices such as the iPhone and iPad. Both streaming, for in-home viewing, and file downloads, for on-the-go access, are provided. Although, it’s probably safe to assume not all content will be cleared for offloading.
Next up, the TiVo IP set-top box, first announced in February, remains unnamed as their ungainly “IP-STB.” This upcoming device, pictured above left from the show floor and as a render down below, acts as an extender for TiVo Premiere hardware to other televisions – providing access to both live and recorded programming, in addition to web content, via the familiar TiVo interface. It’s quite similar to, and will coexist with, the TiVo Preview – but by dropping the integrated CableCARD tuner, it becomes a much more economical and compact solution.
Both the TiVo Stream and IP-STB will be available to TiVo’s cable partners and retail customers in the “coming months.” On the cable side, the Stream looks to be a highly compelling “TV Everywhere” offering that a smaller provider like RCN could implement without investing resources to roll their own (head-end solution and associated licensing). On the retail front, I’m looking forward to finally building out a true TiVo whole home environment and intend to acquire both devices… although TiVo’s availability forecast has shifted from summer to fall.

Details Guide to Install XBMC in ACER REVO R3610 as Apr 2012 (XBMCLive Eden) with Video (Part 1 of 5)

XBMC Media Centre as today (April 2012) has release Stable version 11.0 (Eden). What's new or update can be view at XBMC Website : http://xbmc.org/

Here I want to share, step by step how I install new XBMC 11.0 (Eden) Live version into my ACER Revo with video guide elsewhere.

After reading a lots of blogs, webcast, forums since Dec 2011 about Eden. I thought it could be disaster if I install it into my stable XBMCLive now, and I will not get XBMC Standalone like I had right now. It means I need to run XBMC via Ubuntu (boot into Ubuntu firtst and then run XBMC automatic from there).

Last week I found XBMCFreak Live Version 1 has been release (release 4 Apr 2012) here : http://bit.ly/IiVakQ . Then here I tried to upgrade my XBMC.

Step by Step Guide (I cannot thank enough forumers and bloggers that discuss about how to install XBMC into their HTPC Ion including this Acer Revo over the internet, because what you will see here is combination of those technique and tricks to success install at first try...) - yes I did it 1st install.

** I install using SDCard 4GB (as Acer Revo had HDSC Card Reader and 4GB is min requirement)

Section 1.) Preparation of Bootable SDCard

* I did this step using my Laptop (as my laptop much faster than htpc)

Here is Video Guide (details and download required software below)

1. Insert SDCard or USB Drive into your computer (USB or Card Reader) and do nothing.

2. Download these 3 files : (HP Format Utility - 2MB), (Unetbootin - 4.5MB)& (WinSCP - 3MB) from here (in my dropbox folder) : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lbfrlgswruhcw9w/UtF2jSua3T

       * Sign Up dropbox here : http://db.tt/7nTUj00G (Free 2GB + 500MB cloud storage).

and also the most importantly XBMCFreak Live 11.0 : http://bit.ly/HxDSTh (600MB)

3. Install required software
- Install WinSCP
- Install HP Format Utility Software
- Download Unetbootin (no need to install)

4. Format SDCard / USB Drive into FAT32
- Open HP Format Utility
- Select your card/drive and FAT32
- Start Formating (Do not use 'Quick Format')

5. Input ISO Image into SDCard/USB Drive and make it Bootable
- Open Unetbootin (just double click downloaded Unetbootin-win-549.exe)
- Click/Select 'DiskImage' and then select/locate XBMC ISO image that you downloaded before
- Makesure type is 'USB Drive' (both SDCard or USB Drive used this setting) and click OK.
- Finish, Exit and reject your SDCard/USB Drive

In 2010, I installed XBMCLive 10.1 Dharma (Standalone) into my Acer Revo running as dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate. That version of XBMCLive (2.6.32.29 running perfectly with about 100+ songs, 100+ movies and tv shows in my external HDD, and over 50+ internet streaming channels.

My Acer Revo setting, I spare 25GB for XBMCLive. Installed it from SDCard 4GB, it dual boot with Windows7. Then when it start, it automatic boot into XBMC with 10seconds. I can start watching movie after about 20sec cool boot.
